I started practicing prayer and meditation daily about 2 years ago. Before doing that I was depressed because of my personal situation and consumed by constant fear and anxiety when considering making changes to it. Since embarking on my spiritual journey, I have found the courage to make those changes and while my anxiety still emerges at times, my spiritual practice allows me to ground myself again rather quickly.
Of course, I partook in conventional therapy, which also supported me on my path, but the spiritual foundation is what has cultivated the deep trust I now have in the process.
After sustaining injuries in a car accident in 2022 (after I had already been ill due to burn out for over a year), none of the physicians were able to tell me how long it would take for me to heal or if there would be any permanent implications, which was extremely difficult for me to deal with (because I was a control freak in a situation I had absolutely no control over). I finally had to learn to let go and trust that, no matter what happens, it will all work out for my highest good.
I became very depressed after having just recovered from a bout with depression. It was then that a friend introduced me to a number of spiritual teachers (Gabby Bernstein to name one) and I began to read their books and implement what they taught in my everyday life. The main aspects were prayer, meditation and surrender...
I begin every single day with prayer and meditation. I tend to have morning anxiety and engaging in the two helps to calm me and shift the negative energy all those worrisome thoughts racing through my mind after waking up induce. My spiritual practice is and will always remain an integral part of my life, I couldn't even begin my day without it.
I never identified with any particular religious ideology because of negative experiences, but I know now that it doesn’t have to be as oppressive and restrictive as I have witnessed it while growing up.

Thank you far taking the time to share this!
What originally lead you to trying prayer and mediation?
How has your spiritual journey been lately?

I truly resonate with your story.
After facing burnout myself, I understand the struggle with control and how hard it is to let go when life throws more challenges your way.
I’ve also dealt with depression, and it’s tough when it feels like you’ve just gotten back on your feet, only to be knocked down again.
Spiritual practices like prayer and meditation have been lifesavers for me too.
Starting my day with them calms my anxious thoughts and helps me find peace.
Like you, I didn’t connect with traditional religion because of negative experiences, but I’ve found that spirituality doesn’t have to be restrictive.
It can be freeing, and I’m grateful to have that grounding in my life, just as you’ve found.
